Kettlebells became popular approximately15 years ago while I was working as a Personal Trainer at LA Fitness in Manchester.

In 2008 I decided to become a certified Kettlebell instructor and I’ve been using them since then for my own training and with most my clients.  I’ve got to say that they are one of my top training tools. Why??

Well these are some of the benefits!

1. All-in-one total body conditioning tool

2. Improves core strength & stability

3. Enhances body awareness & coordination

4. Improves balance & stabilizer muscles

5. Serious fat-burning workouts

6. Great non-running cardio alternative

7. Develops explosive hip power & speed

8. Increases range of motion (mobility & flexibility)

9. Builds lean muscle

10. Develops a stronger posterior chain (muscles at the back of your body) and improves posture

11. Grip strength

12. Reduces weaknesses & muscle imbalances

13.Improves joint health

14.Compact and portable

However, there are still some people, potentially yourself included, who are skeptical about whether they should incorporate kettlebells into their training plan.

Well, if you have any doubt, I’m here to tell you that you absolutely should.

Here are a few tips!

I recommend mastering the kettlebell swing before moving to the more complex movements like the clean and press and the snatches (swinging  the kettlebell right above your head).

Start with the double swing (swing the kettlebell with both hands) and remember the power is generated through the hips.

Then progress to the one hand swing.

I’m available online if you do need a demo.

Kettlebells, past and present.

Regardless of whether the exact origin of Kettlebells was in Scotland, Greece or Russia, the history of kettlebells, as a training tool, dates back 100 years when they started been used as a form of weight training by strong men, weight lifters and wrestlers. Later it became a competitive sport in the late 1940’s in Russia and has progressed from here.

In recent times, various institutions and top sports-scientists have conducted a wide range of studies. The general conclusion is that kettlebell is the single most effective tool for developing power, strength and endurance as well as for functional-based training.

Kettlebells are currently used by Military and Special Forces, Police departments, top Olympic athletes and professional sporting teams, as the training tool of choice for producing unparalleled results.
